Staff Picks: If Our Dogs Chose

The Darn Tough office is fido friendly, and our canine companions are known for bringing joy to our colleagues and company. We even have a Pet Committee, tasked with ensuring the well-being and model-citizenry of our pooches and personnel.

This long-standing partnership between humans and dogs is reflected not only in our everyday work environment but also in history.

Our Best Friends
Dogs have been benefitting the human race for thousands of years; they’ve become attuned to our needs with breed-specific characteristics: to protect the family or livestock, to hunt for food, to assist people with disabilities, and much more!

In our day-to-day lives, dogs have been scientifically proven to lower blood pressure, reduce loneliness, and offer emotional relaxation; more specifically, interacting with them produces oxytocin AKA the ‘love hormone’ which helps with stress reduction, social bonding, healing, and immune function.
Our dogs also help motivate us to enjoy the great outdoors — from hiking to biking, from paddle boarding to skiing. Darn Tough dogs get to enjoy the glory of Vermont’s natural environment. So yes, it was a no-brainer for us to allow dogs into our office environment; they’re part of the family, and we value that.

It’s said that dogs resemble their owners. Similarly, the socks we own say a lot about us — from bold patterns to cozy cushioned comfort to high-performing athletic styles. Your sock drawer probably reflects a bit of your personality.

But have you ever gone as far to wonder: if your dog could choose, what would their favorite socks be? Well, we did. (You’re welcome.)

Staff Picks for Dogs
Meet a selection of the dogs of Darn Tough and discover which socks best match their unique personalities — according to their humans.

Mabel
The Dog: Mabel, Hound/Husky

The Owner: Leyna, Sr. Growth Marketing Manager

Favorite Sock: Mirnavated Run sock

Why That Sock? Because she’s an unstoppable force.

Mabel’s favorites things include running alongside while her mom paddleboards and bikes, dissecting her squeaky toys like in anatomy class, and broccoli.

She occasionally does wear Darn Tough socks if she gets abrasions on her toes and needs to be prevented from licking, while keeping things breathable.

Sunny
The Dog: Sunny, Yorkshire Terrier

The Owner: Melissa, HR specialist

Favorite Sock: Bear Town hike sock in Quartz

Why That Sock? She loves to go on walks and hikes.

Sunny’s not a big fan of baths or her flea and tick medication… but she does like work. After all, a day in the Darn Tough office is always a great opportunity to receive attention from her adoring fans. The only problem is if her friend Zak isn’t in his office ready to provide her daily treat.

Sunny is a sock-wearing dog, as they prevent her from excessively chewing on those tiny feet.

Korra
The Dog: Korra, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Owner: Felicia, Associate Finance Analyst

Favorite Sock: Shorty Heavyweight

Why That Sock? They are extra cozy!

Korra’s favorite activities include snuggles (awwww), so it’s no wonder her favorite sock would be the ultra-plush Shorty Heavyweight. Korra also loves playing outside with empty water bottles and going for a ride on the ATV… though if she gets muddy, she’s not a fan of the bath and blow dry after.

Rosie
The Dog: Rosie, Boxer Mix

The Owner: Seth, Supply Chain Specialist

Favorite Sock: Wild Life Crew sock

Why That Sock? Specifically the Forest color featuring the bear… because she loves to hibernate.

Seth’s confident the Wild Life sock is the perfect match for Rosie… but she’s really not too choosy. After a run, Rosie walks circles around the mudroom until you hand her a dirty sock to carry around in triumph.

When it comes to places to sleep though, she has her preferences:

So close to the wood stove you need to drag her back
In strong, direct sunlight
On the nicest furniture in the house
The Dog: Mica, Bedlington Terrier

The Owner: Shannon, Production Specialist — Knitting

Favorite Sock: 1466 Hiker Micro Crew

Why That Sock? They’re perfect for all the sports we do, not too high, not too low.

Mica is a well-traveled pup, with 10 states under her belt. Her favorite sports are Happy Ratters, Fast CAT, and Barn Hunt.

When she’s not waiting her turn at dog events (not a favorite activity), you’ll find her running (this is a favorite) or searching out rodents to bark at (another favorite).

Shannon uses socks with a cut-off leg to keep Mica’s neck and ears warm on really cold winter days.

Gaia
The Dog: Gaia, Mutt

The Owner: Mike, Dealer Service Representative

Favorite Sock: Bubble Bunny

Why That Sock? Because. Bunnies.

You won’t catch Gaia without a smile — she loves to be free in the world and judge birds for mocking her. That said, she has no patience for mean people or traffic cones in unlit areas.

Gaia knows sock are off limits… and she’s keen to show off that knowledge by grabbing a sock, bringing it to Mike, and relinquishing the treasure in exchange for a good-behavior treat.

Archie
The Dog: Archie, Bear/Pig/German Shepherd

The Owner: Chad, Director Operational Excellence

Favorite Sock: Mountaineering sock

Why That Sock? He needs a big sock for all his Vermont forest hiking.

Archie loves three things in life:

Playing frisbee
Hiking
Chasing cats around the yard
What he doesn’t like? Small dogs that won’t stop barking at him.

Martie
The Dog: Martie, Catahoula

The Owner: Courtney, Brand & Community Marketing Manager

Favorite Sock: Stride Micro Crew

Why That Sock? This sock’s sleek, flat stitch is all she needs for running light speed after the cat.

Don’t wake up Martie while she’s getting beauty sleep… unless it’s to chase tennis balls and smell smells.

When Martie’s eye had to be removed, she sported Darn Tough socks on both front paws to ensure she wouldn’t scratch her face… or if she tried, at least all she felt was soft Merino!

Dogs and Socks
One can find a lot of similarities between dogs and socks: they are both there to greet you in the morning, they can brighten your day, they offer comfort and security, and when you’ve got a favorite, you hope to never let it go. It’s no wonder, then, that we form such a deep bond with these trusted, loyal companions.

We are well aware that some dogs are known to steal socks, rip holes in them, and, in rare and unfortunate instances, ingest them. The only good news there is that your damaged or ingested Darn Tough socks are covered under our Unconditional Lifetime Guarantee.
